Halloween

Koreans don't celebrate Halloween but we did at the school. I think they celebrate most of the Western holidays at the school to show the kids what American culture is like. There are enough foreign teachers in Gwangju that we were able to have a decent Halloween party.  It was funny walking downtown and going out to eat at a nice restaurant all dressed up while everyone around you is dressed normal!  One of the teachers commented though that the stares he got were about the same as when he is dressed normally.  Koreans are one of the most homogeneous populations in the world, so anyone that looks different stands out, and they are a lot more forward.  They have no qualms about staring, pointing, or even talking in Korean about you as they pass.  My shaved head doesn't help either!
